Furthermore, we apply Appadurai’s (1996) concept of “mediascapes” to understand how Purnima’s images flow across national and diasporic Bangladeshi communities, creating shared visual experiences that bind audiences. Purnima debuted opposite superstar Salman Shah in E Jibon Tomar Ami (1997). Immediately, her photographic portrayal followed a specific formula: the demure, sari-clad village girl with downcast eyes, contrasted with glamorous song sequences featuring Western-style dresses.
