However, it was during his time at the University of Berlin, where he transferred in 1836, that he became increasingly interested in philosophy and began to develop his critical thinking skills. At the University of Berlin, Marx was heavily influenced by the works of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, a German philosopher known for his dialectical approach to understanding history and society. Marx’s engagement with Hegel’s ideas would have a lasting impact on his own philosophical development.
